Happy Valentines everyone! Have you guys cheated on your diet? I am guilty!
Indeed, that cute lil thing are made of flowers. I decided to buy that for my mom. Mom wanted roses but this still made her happy. Its the thought that counts ika nga. :)
Valentine's is definitely red velvet time! Its a mainstream fad! I did experience mishaps in making red velvet, the world was conspiring against me that day. :( So I ended up with way too much red velvet cupcakes because I redid everything. The problem was my baking powder. Come on! I've learned something from this experience. My last batch of baking powder was opened just 3 months ago and yah, it lost quite a percentage of potency already. I don't know what's the science behind everything but perhaps the heat of the kitchen is the culprit. Just a wild guess. So from now on, I'm keeping my jar inside a cool cupboard and let's see what happens! Experiments are fun! :)
I made Fondant roses and leaves as toppers. These by far were the most unflattering roses I've done. Why? Well I don't think they're all that bad but my friend who ordered this batch didn't seem quite impressed :( Sadly, I was a tad in a hurry to finish this batch that day. :( He didn't complain vocally about it though, but he really did looked unimpressed. :( Next time dear friend. I hope the taste compensates!
This was the batch the very same friend ordered last year:
I guess he expected roses like these. :(
Making toppers is as fun as baking gets! :)
I made blue velvet cupcakes too for a friend. Actually it turned out greenish. Yellow cake batter + blue food coloring. Of course! How stupid of me! I still don't know how to make it look really blue though. I could but I have to slash out the cocoa powder, but it wouldn't be a velvet cake though without the it. I need to blog this next time! ahaha
My plus one gave me a perfume and a pair of really cute earrings. Sadly, I wasn't able to bake something for him. :( If I hadn't experience the red velvet mishap, then perhaps I could have done something for him. Aww, I'll surprise him soon. Better late than never :)
How did your valentines go? I have a great time!
xoxo,
Stepp
